So we were planning to go to visit my cousin Tom in Alabama after Hunting Island but turns out he doesn’t live there anymore. Surprise! Missed that family news! They’ve moved north to Illinois so that visit will have to be delayed to a future trip.
We didn’t really want to go much further south because we have to be back in Canada before April 1st. So since the water had warmed up to the 60s, figured we’d try fishing again back in Huntington Beach State park. Lucked out and got a site on March 1 for 8 nights. But the cost for those 8 nights was more than we paid for the entire month of January on their snowbird special. See come March 1, the price per night goes back to its normal high season rate of $53 US (including taxes and fees) Ouch!
I think we fished for 5 of the 8 days. Mother nature wasn’t exactly kind to us. Temps went back to below seasonal ie. below 60F and the wind, damm all those nor’easters this past week! It was cold on the jetty!
Not the nicest fishing conditions but we perservered and low and behold, Dave caught two fish!
Both keeper size, finally fresh fish for dinner and boy were they good, one of our favourites. But for fish this size they didn’t have as much meat on them as you’d expect. Guess the cold kept them skinny.
As good as they were, they were probably the most expensive fish dinner ever. Don’t want to think about the money we spent on bait, tackle, etc this trip with very little to show for it.
We thought after this day of catching, our luck had finally turned and there’d be more fish to come but sadly that was all the ocean decided to share. My fishing curse didn’t get broken and I gave up more than my fair share of tackle to the stupid rocks.
So northward we go, in fact we’re in the Smokie Mountains in North Carolina as I FINALLY update the website. Too bad it’s not the nicest day because we’re in a valley, by a creek in the middle of the mountains. Nice scenery!
Going to visit Cindy and Vic in Kentucky tomorrow for a few days then hopefully back in Canada by the end of the week!
