Back to nature

RELAXING IN THE SHADE - Perfect place to watch the parade of wildlife that wandered by both day and night.

After living in the concrete jungle for 5 days we were ready to get back to what we like best, camping in the country. Found a nice, quiet, little state park only a few hours west, right on the South Llano River in Junction Texas. Almost to the desert but not quite.

The sites here were very spacious, green grass and trees all around. Felt lush after all that concrete at the previous place. No WIFI here and there wasn’t a single TV channel available via the antenna. That was a good thing though because there was lots to see if you just parked your chair in the shade and watched. Never been in a place with so many butterflies, they were everywhere. Plenty of birds, deer, bunnies and jack rabbits to observe as well. We even got to sit outside at night with a campfire which was an unexpected treat in Texas since it’s usually under a constant burn ban with the drought.

Weather continues to be sunny and hot. Highs in the 90s so any hiking or physical activity had to be done early in the day. Nice trail here to run along, yes we’re still keeping up with our exercising but we’re both drinking lots of water after Dave’s dehydration incident.

Once you get outside of the campground and away from the river the terrain is sparse and desert like although there are still some hills. We did an 8 mile hike one morning more for the exercise than anything else, nothing in particular to see. Good practice for the Grand Canyon.
