Ludington, Michigan

Our campsite in front of George and Norena’s house.

After we dried out a bit in Columbus, IN we headed north to Elkhart, IN for a few days. This is the land of RV makers so there are some good deals to be had at the local RV surplus stores. This time we finally managed to get over to a couple of them in nearby White Pigeon, Michigan. Got some good stuff for the trailer for cheap!

Had a minor mishap on the way to our next stop in Ludington, Michigan. The stupid, and I repeat stupid, stupid, stupid GPS was trying to take us on some stupid, slightly shorter, windy route there vs. slightly longer but straighter route on the highway. When you’re pulling a 38 ft trailer, straighter, direct routes are always better but there’s no way to ask for that on the one we have. So we ignored it’s directions and let it keep “recalculating”. Despite having a state road map to help us, we got turned around and had to back track to get on route and the place we found to turn at, was too tight! There was a pole that ended up scraping the back 10 ft of the trailer. Smashed the back running light, bent the back door frame and twisted the bottom of the awning arm. Nothing serious, could have been A LOT worse!

The rest of our trip to Ludington was uneventful...why you ask did we go to Ludington (it’s about an hour north of Grand Rapids on Lake Michigan)? Well, the “bad influences”, Norena & George that we met in Foley, Alabama invited us to visit them on our way back home so we took them up on their offer.

Very glad we did because we had a great time. They showed us all around the town. The beach there is beautiful, lots of white sand, similar to Grand Bend, ON. We got introduced to smoked white fish from Lake Michigan....it’s REALLY good! Met a bunch of their friends and socialized in the local Legion that George is a member at. Even went to a local high school track meet to watch their grand daughter compete. And the rest of the time we ate, we drank, we talked, we laughed and now we need to detox again!

Thanks again for inviting us to your place George and Norena, we had such a good time!
