Port O’Connor, Texas

Hello! Yes my bad, no updates for over a month. I have a love hate relationship with doing this but I need to do it if for no one else but me. Keeps our travels organized for future reference and if you enjoy reading what I post, well that’s a bonus. Hopefully you find my words and pics somewhat entertaining :-)

We arrived in Port O’Connor (POC) on Feb 15, still here, expect to be here until mid May. This RV park feels like a second home, it’s our 3rd time here and it’s the same place we got stranded at while we waited for our truck engine to get replaced back in 2013. The owners are great people as are most of the other winter Texans we’ve met here. It’s pretty funny how many people have recognized us as the Canadians who had the truck problems from 6 years ago! Guess we made a “good” impression.

Where is POC? This should put it in perspective for you

It’s pretty far south, right on the gulf, a tiny town but it’s growing, they recently got a Dollar General!!  Yes that’s a big deal,  before that the Speedy stop/gas station was the only place to get supplies and they don’t sell things cheap. Port Lavaca is the closest “big” town (about 20 minutes drive) to shop at and get groceries at Walmart or H.E.B.

Fishing is pretty much the main reason people live and stay here. That’s why we came but guess what, this winter has been colder and rainier than normal (just our luck) so the fishing isn’t fantastic just yet, apparently the water needs to get up to about 75F for that to happen, it’s currently only 65F. But already the fishing has been better than our entire winter last year in South Carolina.

The next 2 weeks of weather look fantastic, sunny and mid to low 70s so hopefully we get over the brutal colds we’ve had for the past two weeks. Whatever bug has been floating around here is nasty! You get a sore throat, loose your voice then cough so hard you get a headache. Feel like crap for a few days, then better, then relapse again…Jesus!

All I can say is thank god we’ve got the big trailer vs. the tiny truck camper. At least we’ve been comfortably miserable nursing our colds.

So here’s some pics from around town. Hope where ever you are, spring is finally springing!!!
