Ottawa/Gatineau

Spent almost 2 weeks in Ottawa visiting my brothers and their partners….the time FLEW by! So good to see them and catch up. Lots of talking, laughing and consuming of alcoholic beverages. Mother nature cooperated and gave us perfect weather for the entire time we were there. Only one day of rain, which given how wet this summer has been, was kinda shocking.

We did lots of walks and biked a few times along the Rideau and Ottawa rivers. Ottawa is very bike friendly, excellent trails. The city is also filled with interesting sculptures and memorials. Some are pretty odd…you’ll see that in the pics.

We hiked in Gatineau, QC provincial park. Did the Wolf trail, only supposed to be 7.3 K but we ended up doing 8.72 K because one of us, (me) got distracted and took us that extra distance UP some rugged terrain that was just a critter, likely a bear trail. Duh! Good thing we noticed that the blue trail markers seemed to have disappeared so we didn’t have to back track too far.

The one very touristy thing we did is visit the Mosaicanada 150 Exhibit in Gatineau QC. It’s in Jaques Cartier park, right on the river, directly across from Ottawa so we just parked in Ottawa, walked across the bridge and we were there. If you love gardening and plants and have an appreciation for people with artistic talent, go see this. It’s amazing! Here’s my pictures of the display but they really don’t do them the justice they deserve.

The rest of the our pics from around the Ottawa area are here

Just one last comment, what is with Mother Nature? She is pissed about something that’s for sure! Our hearts go out to all those affected by Hurricane Harvey as they attempt to put their lives back together. Happy to hear our friends in Port O’Connor, Texas weathered the storm with very little damage. So lucky! And now Irma is hurtling towards Florida, I hope it doesn’t become the catastrophe they’re predicting and veers out east into the ocean and away from land.

Our options for spending the winter somewhere warm in the USA are looking pretty limited. Good thing we don’t make plans and are good at winging it!
