Avoided Nemo, made it to Texas!

Wow did we time our departure right! When we left Southern Ontario on Feb 6, it was snowing a bit when we left Newmarket but as we headed west to cross the border at Sarnia/Port Huron it got sunny and it was clear driving all the way to Middlebury, Indiana, our first pit stop.

When we left the next morning, that part of Indiana was on the very southern end of winter storm Nemo but we didn’t get hit by the freezing rain they were calling for in the area. Lucky considering the weather that was hitting north of there. After another long day of driving we checked into a hotel in Bowling Green, Kentucky and that afternoon it was sunny and warm, highs of 70F. Gorgeous day, felt like spring.

From there, we had to decide whether to go directly south to Alabama and then west thru Mississippi and Louisiana to get to Texas or go West right away thru Tennessee and Arkansas. We chose to go west right away and get there faster, made it Forrest City, Arkansas for another stay in a great hotel. When we watched the news Friday night and saw how much snow Nemo dumped on you guys back home we were VERY happy we left when we did!! Sure don’t miss that white crap!  Hope y’all got the day off work and stayed home, safe and warm!

Made it to east Texas on Saturday. Came back to the RV park in Pittsburg, Texas (home of the giant Pilgrim head) we found last year. Perfect spot to get the trailer back into day to day living shape, free laundry here is a big bonus so is the price, $12.50/night. Glad we travelled the route we did because some bad thunderstorms and tornados went east from Texas and did some serious damage in Mississippi yesterday....we might have been right in the middle of that storm system had we gone the other route. Weather here has been overcast and rainy, highs ranging from about 45F to 55F but it’s better than being snowbound :-) and I know none of you feel the least bit sorry for us do you!

By the end of this week we hope to be parked for at least a month in Port O’Connor, right on the gulf to relax and fish in the nice warm (I hope!) sun...can’t wait!
