Made it to Texas!

THE LONE STAR STATE - The overpasses in Texas have their star and state all over them

Wow, talk about lucky...we had perfect February travel weather for getting to Texas, not a snowflake to be seen anywhere. Thank you Mother Nature!

After our 1st stop in Battlecreek, Michigan, we drove another 7 hour stretch  thru Indiana and into Illinois where we stayed at a hotel in Effingham. Next day, drove thru Missouri, into Arkansas for one more hotel pit stop in Marion. That was a rainy day and we almost lost a windshield wiper along the way. Dave had to pullover and put it back on a couple of times.....lucky for us it didn’t fly off on the interstate. Good thing the hotel we stayed at wasn’t too far away from an Autozone store so got some new ones.

Didn’t need them the next day because it was a sunny drive thru Arkansas into Texas. Arrived in the state on Feb 5th.

Here’s a few of our road trip pictures.

Our first camping destination was the Big Cypress RV park in Pittsburg, north east Texas. Why there? Well the FREE laundry and the $12.50/night price (reflects the Passport America 50% discount) kinda caught our eye. That price also included full hookups and WIFI. Perfect place to get the trailer back into everyday living shape. Took full advantage of the free laundry, washed just about everything that had been stored in the trailer for months just to freshen things up.

Needless to say we made a few trips into the nearby towns of Mount Pleasant and Pittsburg for supplies etc and we noticed something odd...Pilgrim everything! It all started with the odd, and slightly scary looking, giant Pilgrim head outside of a factory in between the 2 towns. Couldn’t tell what business it was the symbol for? Then we noticed there were Pilgrim banks, Pilgrim logos on other businesses smoke stacks and on the wrought iron gates to a huge estate. Had to google it. Found out the “Mesmerizing immense bust pays tribute to a devout Texas chicken baron Bo Pilgrim, who employed this town with his poultry business, Pilgrim’s Pride.” Intrigued? If so check out this website for more info on Bo and all his spin off businesses. We’re guessing the estate we saw is his or someone related to him.

After 3 nights in the land of Pilgrim’s, we headed south (4 hour drive) to Cut and Shoot, Texas (about an hour north of Houston). That’s where we are now, hanging out at the Country side RV park. We were here last year, stopped in on our way home. Decent spot to hang out for a few days while we figure out where to go next. The weather has been on the cool side, highs in low 60s or high 50s during the day, quite a bit cooler at night but not quite freezing. Rainy too but Texans are happy about that considering the drought they’ve been experiencing. Cool and sunny today but there’s another system bringing rain mid next week. Temps supposed to be warming up to the  70s, looking forward to that. Hopefully by then we’ll be camped out closer to, or on the Gulf.

Check out a few of our Texas pictures.
