They say it’s supposed to get warmer...

Fort Lauderdale - Deserted beaches, too cold!

....and at this point, any day that’s sunny and in the 60’s is going to feel like a heat wave. This morning even Miami had record breaking low’s of 36F. “Shattered” the old record of 37F back in 1927.

I know they aren’t used to the cold in Florida but it’s starting to get quite entertaining listening to all the news reports and interviews they’re doing with people on how they’re dealing with the “frigid” temperatures of right around freezing. For those of us from the Great White North, this would just be typical early fall weather.

It does suck for the farmers here though, looks like some areas really got hit hard with a hard frost which seriously hurt the tomato, bean and citrus crops. And that will eventually hit all of us in the pocket book.  :-(

We’ve spent the last couple of days in a parking lot of an RV park in Downtown Fort Lauderdale. Talk about packing us in like sardines but enough people seem to like it. There are a lot of snowbirds here, especially from Quebec and many from ON.  We sure don’t get the appeal of being here for 6 months. Lucky for us it’s just a stop over on our way to the Everglades.

We head there tomorrow for about a week and I’m really looking forward to it. The temperatures are supposed to rebound by the weekend into the high seventies which will feel balmy! Can’t wait to actually sweat again. Might even be lucky enough to get a tan!

Today we went to check out the Fort Lauderdale beaches....they are beautiful but pretty deserted right now except for a few die hard tanners...must be fellow Canadians. :-)   I’m not that desperate though. Didn’t manage to fish, which was disappointing. You have to pay to get onto all the piers which range from $4 to $7 per person. Good for the whole day but we’re not into it that much. On top of that, you have to pay thru the nose for parking. Every spot is metered. Quite the cash grab!

Thought we’d surf fish but they don’t allow it around here between the hours of 9-4. Guess they don’t want you to put a hook into a beach bunny or a surfer, but now we understand how the local piers do such a good business.

Here’s a few pictures from the past couple of days at the Jonathan Dickinson State Park  (near Jupiter Florida) where we were at when it frosted on Jan 6th and from Fort Lauderdale. Not a big fan of Lauderdale, just a big city on the beach which isn’t “our thing”

After the Everglades we’re off to the keys for almost 2 weeks so hoping to enjoy the beaches and the scenery with a few less clothes on! :-) If it’s not hot there, we’re screwed, no where further south to go from here!

Hope to spend a warmer update soon! Stay warm at home you guys!
