7 States in 8 days

So we left Alabama on June 11, now today, 8 days later, we’ve been in and thru 7 states:

June 11 - Alabama to Mississippi

June 13 - Mississippi to Louisiana then Arkansas

June 16 - Arkansas to Oklahoma

June 19 - Oklahoma to Texas then to New Mexico

Tonight we’re in a hotel in Santa Rosa, New Mexico, time to get caught up on email, update the website, do laundry etc. None of the places we’ve stayed in since leaving Alabama had internet so it’s a good excuse to take a break from camping...especially after driving 6+ hours again. Nice not to have to set up the trailer etc.

Ate at one of the original restaurants on Route 66. Been around for 50 years, still family owned...good food!

Santa Rosa is called the city of Natural Lakes and they have spot called the Blue Hole that we hope to check out tomorrow before we leave. It’s a natural sink hole, 80 ft deep and apparently crystal clear...a good dive spot in the middle of desert like terrain...who knew?

We’re still trying to get to BC by early July so that’s why we’re doing some longer drives and not taking the time to check out some of the places we’ve seen along the way. For example, we drove right thru Texas today but stopped in Amarillo for lunch. Turns out the American Quarter Horse Museum and Hall of Fame is there...have to save that for another visit. As well as the Palo Duro Canyon.  Also stopped quick in McLean, Texas which is right on old Route 66...you’ll love the picture I took just for you and Ian, Linda!

And so far in New Mexico there also seem to be lots of interesting places to visit, including Roswell (at which they also brew Alien Amber beer!) It’s not too far south from here. Can’t wait until we can travel without a timeline!

Hope to be heading off towards Arizona tomorrow...no exact plans as to where yet but Dave’s goal is to be in Vegas within the next few days, I’ve never been there so looking forward to checking it out while Dave gets in his poker fix.

Check out these pics!
