How we got started

For many years, we talked about traveling full time. We made a number of decisions and changes to facilitate that dream, the biggest one being selling our 49 acre hobby farm in Southern Ontario in 2008

We sold it privately and although it took 2 years to sell, we wouldn’t have done it any other way. A nice couple bought the farm and they kept our 3 horses and 5 cats which was perfect.

Shortly after we sold, we fulfilled another dream and quit our office jobs after 20 plus years of service. It was hard to leave the people but not the work.....we LOVE being “retired”.

The trailer you see in this picture was our first new home! We bought it on ebay from someone in States (brave I know!) but we got an excellent deal and Dave had no problems picking it up. It was in great shape, and we only had to make a few changes to make it comfortable for us.

We learned a lot from our 1st 6 months on the road. So, based on our experience with the little trailer (only 18’) we decided to upgrade to something a bit more comfy! Two main requirements, a bigger fridge and a queen size bed we didn’t have to set up and take down every day.

In Sept 2009 we bought a 25 ft trailer that had both those things and much more space. The back slide out made it feel like a mansion. That extra 18" of aisle space made our living area feel huge.

Learned more during winter 2009/2010 and decided to upgrade again. Got a bigger truck and a bigger trailer, a 38’ toy hauler in June 2010. It’s a mansion. We loved the extra space, great head room and the garage. Who ever decided to put a garage in a trailer was brilliant. It totally worked with our lifestyle, best place for stinky fishing gear, wet clothes, muddy hiking boots etc.

When we decided to take a break from traveling in 2013 we sold this trailer. Who knows what the next one will look like but I’m pretty sure it will have some sort of garage, it’s a feature we absolutely need.

Would you believe we travelled in a truck camper after that toy hauler. Crazy us but hey we survived. This was our home for 6 months in winter 2017/2018 when we got back on the road.

In the fall of 2018 we sold the truck camper and bought a VERY nice 2014 Tesla toy hauler. Pics of it to come. Only have an exterior one for now
