After we finished with Yellowstone, we headed further north and spent a few days in Fairmont, Montana and then in Wallace, Idaho. Did a few more hikes but nothing spectacular to share.
Crossed the border back into Canada at Osoyoos, BC on a beautiful sunny and warm day. Met up with our traveling friends, Heidi & Dave, who live there. We hadn’t seen them since we first met in the winter of 2010 so it was great to catch up over good food and more than a few glasses of wine at their place. They gave us a tour of the area and a scenic trip around the lake in their boat. As tempting as it was, Dave was banned from water skiing :-)
After that, we headed north to Sicamous, BC to visit with Peg (Dave’s sis) and Dennis. We spent 10 days there, mostly hanging out with them at their place and exploring the area. Last time we saw them was the fall of 2010 just before they moved out to BC from ON.
The timing of our first visit with them wasn’t the best though. It’s been a really wet and cold spring and the water levels in the Shuswap lake are high, almost at historic flood levels. Days before we arrived, a flash flood in the Sicamous creek wiped out a bridge on highway 97A into town from the south. We had to take 97B (via Salmon Arm) to get there instead. All that water compromised the safety of the town’s water supply so there was a drinking water ban on while we were there. Water was available at the local rec centre though so we managed just fine.
Thoroughly enjoyed our time with you guys, thanks for having us and hope you’re fully recovered from that Enderby Cliffs hike Peg!
