Arrived in the USA on Oct 10th and have been staying in an RV park just outside Bangor Maine. The weather has been amazing for being this far north at this time of year.
Since today is Friday the 13th and we’re in Bangor Maine we thought why not geek out and visit the house of one of my all time favourite authors Stephen King!!!!
The house is gorgeous but the wrought iron gate and all it’s creepy little details make it the perfect fence for the best horror fiction writer of all time.
And there’s way more house behind the house front.
I have to admit it felt a bit odd to “lurk” around a house like this but believe me we weren’t the only ones. While we were there there were non stop carloads of Stephen King fans taking pictures.
You can’t see it very well in this picture but the oval in the gate is the letter “K” and it’s actually designed like a scorpion.
The neighbour’s house on the left was up for sale, also gorgeous.
We checked it out online and it’s “only” 5,168 sq ft, 6 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 part bathrooms, 8 working fireplaces and on just under an acre. For sale for only $675,000!!!!!!!! For those of you reading this from the KW and Toronto area, Oh my freaking god! A property like this would be worth millions in our neck of the woods. If interested check out the listing…wow! But there’s nothing in it saying you also have to put up with all the geeky tourists like me taking pictures of your famous neighbour’s house.
So after our walk around Bangor, we decided to treat ourselves to dinner out. We made our first stop at a restaurant/seafood place the RV park recommended but the restaurant part was closed for the season. So used our trusty Garmin to find a seafood restaurant and boy did we hit the jackpot! Check out this Maine shore dinner we got at the Angler restaurant.
For $32, yes only $32 we started off with a bowl of lobster stew which was full of huge pieces of mostly claw meat. Dave had at least 5 claws in his plus additional chunks….pretty much an entire lobster in a bowl! The main course was a pile of steamed mussels, clams and a 1 pound lobster with two sides. Holy crap it was GOOOD!
The wine was only $4/glass and the waiter filled them up to rim each time he brought them. Total for all that food and two glass of wine each was only $88 plus a good tip (the waiter was excellent!) came to $110. This meal at home would have easily been $200 or more.
So I hope your Friday the 13th was as good as ours! More from Maine later.
