See ya Grand Bend

Finished up our house sit in Grand Bend last week. The Friday before we left, we managed to get in a road trip to Goderich which is only about an hour north of GB.  Really pretty little town, also right on Lake Huron.  I can’t believe neither Dave or I had been there before considering it’s so close to Grand Bend.

We picked a shitty day to go though, it was bloody cold and windy….not exactly a nice day for a beach walk but we perservered and did the boardwalk anyways. Nice to finally see the forsythia bushes in bloom.

If interested in some of the town history, including info about the tornado in August 2011 ( that destroyed or seriously damaged 100 houses, 25 buildings and thousands of 150-plus-year-old trees) check this out.

So not exactly the nicest day for wandering around town but after we had lunch we toured a bit of the historic district. There are some really big old houses here and they seem to be well preserved. More grey day in Goderich pics here.

So I missed a big opportunity in GB….I could have learned how to weave. Kerry, the owner of the house we sat is an avid weaver and she has multiple looms in the house including one really big one. While they were away, her group of weaver friends came once a week to work on their projects. I could have learned from them and worked on one of the empty looms in between their visits…duh! Oh well, if we end up house sitting there again I will definately see what I can pick up from them.

So eventhough Mother Nature didn’t exactly give us great spring weather, we enjoyed our 6 weeks in Grand Bend. Thanks again to Kerry and Ed for taking a chance on us and welcoming us into their home. It was great to meet you both and I’m sure we’ll see you again in the future…who knows, maybe even in Newfoundland! That’s them in front of their redbud and magnolia trees….just about ready to burst!
