To get here we followed the gulf coast and took the free ferry from Galveston to the Bolivar Peninsula. This part of Texas still shows the scars from past hurricanes. High Island is a well known bird migration stop over and it’s busy with birders in the spring. Pretty dead in June though. Check out the BLOG!

Our first time in this part of Texas

Prior to a big hurricane, this was actually a 2 lane highway along the coast. Now it’s use at your own risk.

Fishing at one of the waterways connecting the gulf to the intercoastal waterways.

Not very picturesque but hey, where else were we going to spend an extremely hot day. Had to be 100F for sure!

But later that day Dave hooked something VERY BIG! Took him about 15-20 minutes to get it close enough to haul in. This fellow fisherman was already to help….

….but believe it or not, his net was too small.

….that’s a big Jack Cravelle. They’re great sport to catch because they put up a hard fight but no one eats them. Just after this, I tried to haul it in with our drop net but it broke! CRAP!!!!
