Summary
We left Ontario on February 6, 2013 and bee lined it for Texas. We planned to spend a couple of months relaxing and fishing back in Port O’Connor. We found this great little RV park there last year, extremely friendly owners and winter Texans. Plus it’s just about the cheapest place we’ve ever stayed at.

Then we planned to head west to California, visit Yosemite National Park and then head north along the coast back up to B.C. Unfortunately that never happened. Why? Major truck problems in Texas….. we ended up spending around $20,000 to get a new motor. That was definately not in the plan. All those repairs meant that we were truckless for almost 2 months and it meant we were “stuck” in Port O’Connor until the end of May. But we made the best of it and did a ton of fishing and hey, at least we were stuck somewhere warm!
Despite the fact that the truck seemed to be running well….finally….we decided that it might not be wise to head west over deserts and mountains hauling a 38 ft fifth wheel with a truck with a new motor. Didn’t want to push our luck so decided to head back home. No rush, took about a month to get home with stops in North East Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and in Alabama for a week to visit with my cousin Tom and his family.
Our shitty luck continued, about an hour north of my cousin’s, the trailer broke down on I65. That sidelined us for a week while that got repaired. Finally made it back to Ontario on June 30 2013, just in time for Ruth and Brian’s annual July 1st Canada day party.
