Once we got the trailer roof fixed, we decided to stay put here for another week and get the rest of our repairs complete. We still needed to get the axles reinforced after our accident and Dave found a garage that could do that, a few blocks from the RV park we’re currently staying at. They could also check the trailer brakes while they had the wheels off to do the welding.
We weren’t surprised to hear that the trailer needed new brakes. The error symbols we were seeing on the brake controller in the truck, since Michigan, seemed to imply that they could have been bad, or that a magnet had come loose... we were hoping for the magnet. Of course, they had to order them in,and, they would not arrive until the next day so we have to stay in a hotel. Had to eat out 3 times too...had some great Mexican food and seafood gumbo. I could live on good gumbo!
Bay City isn’t really much of a touristy type town so not much to see or do unless you drive 30 minutes to the Gulf. Did that one day and found a great RV park, right on Matagorda Bay, to stay at when we leave here on Tuesday. It’s walking distance to the beach and 3 fishing piers so we’ll finally be able to get our fishing fix in. There are also miles of hard packed beach to walk, run, bike and even drive on. Really looking forward to being near the water.
We’d stay there longer than 2 weeks but it’s booked up with families who like to fish on spring break. Matagorda is a tiny town, not a college party town...apparently that crowd goes to Galveston and Corpus Christi. We always seem to forget about spring break when we travel in the US and it lasts for at least a month here since the schools alternate when they take their week off.
So we have a bit of work to do to figure out where to go after Matagorda that’s still near the water but not booked up with spring breakers.
Anyways, here’s a few pics from Bay City.
