We did it! Made it back to the top of the rim on May 10, safe and sound but sore and tired. Wow, what an accomplishment! Check out the BLOG!

Finally packed up and ready to go at 7am. Looking forward to working all the going up muscles since the going down muscles are still really sore.

The first part of the hike along the river was relatively easy and flat

It’s only 8:30 am and it’s really warm. Grateful for the shade in this section.

It’s a loooong way up!

We’re getting there but it’s still really early and there’s a long way to go

Those little black spots are tadpoles in a puddle on the trail…unbelievable! It’s supposed to be dry here right?

Took a breather here and a minute to appreciate the journey up. Yeah we just climbed all those switch backs...

….and hugged that cliff wall all the way here.

You can tell when you’re close to a water source, bright green trees and lots more vegetation.

Getting closer to the Indian Gardens

Huge cottonwood trees here and the smell in the air was indescribably good!

Had to hug it!

So lush and green, no wonder Indians settled here for a while.

Made it to the halfway mark at 9:30am

We’ve managed the first 5 miles of up, only 4.3 more miles to go up, and up, and up….

Back on the trail, rested and refueled after a 90 minute break in Indian Garden.

Had to take time appreciate what we’ve accomplished so far.

Will the Jacob’s ladder switch backs ever end?

In case you can’t read the sign “CAUTION! Down is optional, UP IS MANDATORY!” Motivation to keep on hiking…after a break in that little shelter on the right.

The trail below is getting smaller and smaller…that means we’re getting closer to the finish

Trail at the top is so steep and the drop offs….well you just don’t get used to those.

Steep switch backs, looking back it’s hard to believe we just dragged our asses up that trail.

The hole! We were so happy to get here….thought we were almost at the top and only had 5-10 minutes more to go and we’d be at the rim.

But no, we still had a long way to get to the rim.

30 minutes later we were at THE hole! Now we know we’re almost at the top.

Just one more switch back to go!

Made it! Exhausted, tired and extremely happy to be finished!

Back at the trailer, time to clean up, eat and sleep in our own comfortable bed!
