The trail head was on the Bow Valley Parkway. Recommended by a park ranger in the visitor centre but it sure wasn’t our favourite hike. Great exercise at almost 17K return but the mosquitos were incredibly nasty! Check out the BLOG!

The Castle Cliffs….we’re hiking up and behind them via the right side.

The first couple of hours were a long steady climb up through a heavily wooded area and mosquitoes here were the worst yet.

Dave was almost ready to turn back after only an hour into the hike. He was getting attacked by the nastly little blood sucking bugs despite being well coated in bug repellent.

These were the mountains on the far side of the valley opposite the backside of the Castle Cliffs.

We were in the middle of the valley behind the cliffs, that’s Tower lake on the left.

Crystal clear water, very green

Yeah sure, only 1/2 mile to the next lake….what they don’t tell you is that it’s straight up! Had we known that we wouldn’t have eaten lunch before attempting this part of the trail.

I was ready to regurgitate my lunch on the way up, holy crap it was steep.

Yup it’s definately a rock bound lake.

It was a challenge getting Dave to stand still long enough to take his picture because the mosquitoes here must have been starved for blood. We got attacked!

Going back down, that’s Tower Lake. Happy to be finished with this hike, one of the longest we did at almost 17K and our least favourite.
