Finally got into see a Dr on Friday and he confirmed that Dave does have a Grade 3 hamstring pull, the most severe it can be. They took a couple of X-rays to make sure the muscle was still attached to the bone and it is. No missing bone fragments either so it’s all good! Dr recommended he just stretch it now as much as he can so that scar tissue that’s going to ultimately form there, is flexible vs. not if he puts stretching off.
Good news is he can already walk around with out the crutches but he’s not too speedy. Considering it’s only been a week since he injured it and couldn’t put any weight on his leg at all, we’re amazed at his progress.
Our accommodations have changed a bit. We moved out of neighbour #1’s apartment (his parents were visiting and they needed it) and are back in our trailer in another neighbour’s drive way. It’s a great “campsite”. This one has electricity, our own private bath house and kitchen. Turns out the house is empty while they get it ready for renters come mid July so they were happy to let us use the facilities! We lucked out again! Now instead of 2 minute walk to Tom’s, it’s a 5 minute one.
And their cat Samantha comes right in the trailer for visits....she’s not shy!
I think we’re going to give Dave a bit more time to rest and heal so for now, the plan is to stay put in Alabama until Wednesday and then move on...not sure where yet, but somewhere west. We’ll figure that out over the next couple of days!
Oh yeah, in case you were curious, the hospital bills haven’t been as insanely expensive as you hear about in the US medical system....not cheap but we were expecting them to be more than this!
ER visit - $643.15 (including crutches)
Dr visit + 2 X-rays - $216
Ultimately, still worth making a claim on our medical insurance for the amount over our $250 deductible. We ended up paying the bills up front and still have to find out how easy/hard the claim process is with our insurance carrier.
