So we ended up in a small RV park in Williams, Arizona about a 45 minute drive to the Grand Canyon. It was nothing fancy but a decent place to park the trailer while we played tourist and went to the Grand Canyon.
We lucked out, the $25 park entrance was waived on Father’s day as a way to help local people enjoy their own backyard during these tough economic times.
The first thing we did was see the National Geographic IMAX movie about the Grand Canyon and it was absolutely worth it. If you get a chance to see it, go!
After seeing that, we decided that we had to do the helicopter tour of the canyon (especially this time when Dave’s leg is still sore) but the conditions that day were too windy and all the flights were on hold. We decided to book one for the next morning at 8 am instead.
So we spent the day wandering around the south rim of the canyon and it’s nothing short of amazing. Anyone who has the chance to go there, should! It’s incredible and the scenery is truly breathtaking. They have a great set up there, you can walk from look out to look out on the rim trail or take a free shuttle bus between stops. We did a bit of both. Here’s a few pics from our day hike around the rim.
The helicopter tour the following morning was beyond description. It was our first time in a helicopter and the scenery was incredible. It’s an experience we’ll remember forever. Here’s a few of those pictures!
We will absolutely come back again for at least 2 weeks to do a hike down to the canyon and maybe white water raft in the Colorado river...2 days wasn’t nearly long enough but we’re considering this trip a good scouting mission.
GO THERE IF YOU HAVE THE CHANCE!!!
