Spent the 1st 2 weeks of Jan 2011 here…we fished and fished and fished, managed to catch a few too! Weather stayed sunny but cool most days. Check out the BLOG!

Our site, we weren’t on the water.

But we had a decent view of the water from the trailer….that was until that space got filled.

A HUGE catch from the bridge right at the campground….a sand/sugar trout. These things were hungry and supposedly tasty to us humans.

Dave caught a bunch of them one day so we cleaned them up and gave cooking them like this a try. Pan fried up they were really tasty but spent more time picking out the bones vs. eating them.

The park is a Wood stork nesting ground, they’re everywhere.

First Sheepshead caught in the surf

My first catch in the surf, a 15.5 inch sheepshead, our favourite fish!

A wierd spikey puffer fish

Same day I caught the Sheepshead in the surf, I also caught this 13” pompano, my first one ever. I got lucky! This is what everyone was after but hardly saw anyone catching them while we were there.

The fish cleaning station at the campground is very popular with the locals. Woodstorks and ibis on land….

Pelicans at the water…these guys get really brave, most just wait for the heads, guts and skin but if you let your guard down, your fillets could quickly disappear.

Missed the mouth

Not sure how this happened bu tthe fish head missed that giant mouth and ended up on his back

Good thing they’re flexible….it took some time but he finally succeeded and got his prize!

They also hang out at the beach looking for handouts.

This was a gorgeous day, lots of people fishing

13.5 inch black drum

Caught this 13.5 inch black drum on my first cast but it was 1/2” too short to keep. Damm! After that, all we caught were catfish, 18 of the slimy bait stealers.

Black Margate

Black Margate, first time we’d seen this kind of fish but too small to keep.

One of about 20 slimy catfish we caught on the jetty that day.

Finally something other than a catfish, a little Permit, had to throw him back.

Some one is good with pipes! Very creative!

Our last catch, whiting. Also very tasty.

A shark’s tooth that our camping neighbour found at Fort Clinch State Park on Amelia Island, FL. What an amazing find and it’s in excellent shape. Someone offered her $450 for it but it’s not for sale.

Same tooth, other side. It’s razor sharp….makes me shudder to think how much the owner of that tooth could hurt you.
