So obviously I was really bad about updating the website once we went back to work in 2016. To make a long story very short we eventually did buy another house in Waterloo to live in while we worked. It needed some TLC, but very liveable and gave us the opportunity to do some small renovations to improve it’s value. The other bonus was that it was close to work so we could walk there.
Who would have guessed when Dave and I "retired" back in 2008 from SLF that we'd be back working again in 2016 - 2017. But never say never right? Dave’s 6 month contract that was originally supposed to end in June 2016 got extended numerous times and finally ended in April 2017. After my 3 month contract ended in March 2016, I got the opportunity to go back to my old job in my old department working on a web based tool for Mutual funds. That contract just ended in June 2017. It was a great experience to catch up with old friends and to meet and make new friends over the course of working these past 18 months. Who knows, maybe we'll turn up back at SLF again in the future....just like a bad penny!
We also managed to sell our house really fast and we have to say a big thank you to the insane real estate market in KW. It closed at the end of June 2017 and our real estate investment turned out to be a VERY good one. Just happy we didn’t have to buy another house. So where are we now? Living with Dave’s sister Ruth in Newmarket area while we get our shit together to get back on the road. We originally hoped to be travelling out to the east coast by mid July but…. numerous issues have delayed that. For example:
- propane leaks in camper that had to be fixed by taking and leaving it at the repair place for about a week. Kinda important.
- waiting for parts to be welded on the truck to tow things.
- having to get the AC in the truck fixed 2 different times….sigh…but again, kinda important.
- trying to buy another trailer on Kijiji (why do people post ads and then never respond to inquiries?). Why are we buying a trailer? You’ll see, it’s kinda like our mobile garage…we’ll be towing it behind the truck and camper.
Everything just seems to take more time than you think. Plus we aren’t roughing it. Ruth and Brian’s house (left) is very comfortable and it comes with 10 acres, pool and hot tub. Pretty spa like surroundings to enjoy…you know, when it’s not raining. Man has it been a wet summer in Ontario….crazy! Plus I’ve become known as Charlie’s pool toy. The resident golden retriever LOVES to swim and I’ve been known to help entertain him for a few hours at a time which I thoroughly enjoy. Getting in my dog fix! Also nice to spend quality time with family in the area and to help out with things around the house and property. They also have a HUGE veggie garden which I’ve been happy to help with and eat from.
Also just found out that Dave’s sisters from BC will be traveling to Ontario next week and we haven’t seem them in a few years. So another travel plan adjustment. Now we’re just going as far east as the Ottawa area to visit with my brothers for a couple of weeks with just the truck ( no camper ) and then back to Ruth’s to visit with the family from out west. Then early Sept we should, but who knows, actually start travelling for real.
