Hallowe’en Central & Oysters, Urbanna Virginia

So the week (Oct 21 - 28) we spent at the Bethpage resort in Urbanna Virginia went relatively quick. Not a lot to see and do there but we did manage to get out for a quick bike ride around town and Dave got some work done on the truck. Like I said in the previous post when we arrived on the 21st it was right in the middle of the Hallowe’en golf cart parade and trick or treating.

Once they all left on the Sunday we pretty much had the park to ourselves which was glorious but they all rolled in again for the second weekend of Hallowe’en festivities on the Thursday night. I tell you, the money some of these guys spend on their Hallowe’en decorations must be crazy. There is a prize for the best decorated site as voted on by fellow campers but I think it’s more for bragging rights.

For example, this was the site right across from us. They started like this….

And I jokingly said when I walked by that I thought they needed a few more decorations...

And the next day there were more! When I saw them I said that hey, you know I wasn’t serious when I said they needed more decorations and she laughed and said their husbands actually thought they needed more so they went to Lowes and got more….she called it an “investment”! God knows where they store all this stuff, good thing the one group had a toy hauler.

If interested, here’s more of the Hallowe’en decor from around the park.

Oh yeah, the other thing Urbanna is know for is Oysters. In fact this weekend, Nov 4 & 5 is Oysterfest. And if we thought Hallowe’en was crazy busy, apparently it’s insane on Oysterfest. In fact, each of the 50’ x 50’ sites that there was one RV on during Hallowe’en has 2 RVs on it for Oysterfest. That’s just crazy, they pack them in like sardines, don’t ever want to be there when that’s happening.

We got our oyster fix in during the week when it was dead. Biked over to the local seafood market for lunch and brought back 40 oysters to grill for dinner. You just put them on the BBQ and let them cook in the shell. Once the shell opens, they’re ready. So good hot off the grill with a squeeze of fresh lemon. Still can’t bring myself to eat one raw yet.

Oh yeah just to show you how the park changed from weekend to weekend, take a look at these shots of our street.

On to North Carolina!
