After about 2 and half months, it was finally time to say goodbye to Huntington Beach State Park (HBSP) on Feb 2. Although the weather during our stay could have been warmer for our first winter back on the road, it was still better than being in the freezing cold and snow of home in Ontario.
Since we gave up on fishing for most of January, we ended up hanging out more around the campground and got to know a great bunch of fellow RVers. That was mostly because of Jane. She’s a retired teacher, who travels full time in her wheel estate (her words, not mine!) and she’s quite the character. The more we got to know her, the more we liked her as did most of the other campers, especially if they had a dog. To say Jane loves dogs is an understatement. When she was out for her daily walks, she always had a treat bag with her. Her only condition for giving a dog a treat is that she got to love on them. Dave and I always enjoyed watching dogs greet her once they’d figured out she was the treat lady! They all loved her as much as she loved them.
You would think someone who loved dogs so much would be travelling with one herself. Well she did but, but she lost her best buddy Pinto, not that long ago and according to Jane, she just can’t go through that again, too hard. Don’t Dave and I, and so many of you reading this know, just how painful it is to say good bye to a 4 legged family member.
Since she was such a social butterfly, Jane built a little community within the park and Dave and I some how managed to be included. As a result ,we got to meet more great people through her. Campfires at her site were always fun and lots of stories and experiences shared. We really enjoyed getting to know everyone and I’m sure we’ll stay in touch.
We’ll be back to HBSP in the future, it’s definately our happy place but we hope next time the fish will be more co-operative!!!
Here’s a few more pics taken during our stay.
Looking forward to going further south and seeing some new places. Time for new adventures!
